Shedding Pounds for Pounds HOLD THE DOUGHNUTS

If you are harbouring secret thoughts of munching tasty doughnuts in Yarmouth this summer, you had better steer clear of the Harbour Office.

Six of the team at Yarmouth Harbour have embarked on a voluntary sponsored diet and, in so doing, hope to raise £1,000 for Wetwheels, a Solent based charity which provides boating opportunities for disabled and elderly people on their purpose-built and fully accessible Cheetah catamaran.

The idea to start the sponsored diet was that of Chris Lisher, CEO of the Harbour Commission and Yarmouth Harbour Master.  Another five have agreed to join Chris in his bid to shed a few pounds;  Chris Westcott, Ginny McKee, Gus Watson, John Plumbly and Tim Adams, each setting themselves both weight-loss and money raising targets.

Chris explains his reasons;- The Board had already decided to support Wetwheels this year and invite them to operate out of Yarmouth during Carnival Week in August. It felt appropriate that the employees should join together and also try to raise some money for the charity. I showed employees six or so adjectives to describe me ranging from "slim" to "fat" and they settled on "chubby"  when I felt svelte was more appropriate ! So the idea to have a sponsored slim was born.

Geoff Holt, CEO of Wetwheels said "We are delighted that the team at Yarmouth Harbour Commission have agreed  to support us, even more so that they are going to put themselves through some personal discomfort in doing so.  Hopefully the end result will be good for them health wise and the additional money will allow us to take more disadvantaged people on the water.

We are also delighted to announce that Wetwheels will be attending the Yarmouth Carnival this year (14th to 16th August) and we will be running a series of free trips each day for elderly and disabled people for the duration of the Festival.  We can take all ages (our eldest passenger was 99) and all disabilities, including wheelchair users.  Places are limited and will be assigned on a first come basis.  Anyone interested in reserving places should email
