Review of 2016
We have now added up the numbers and have even beaten last year, taking out an amazing 1,680 people on 222 trips during 2016!
Although our intention is not to beat the previous year’s figures we are still delighted with the number of people we have managed to get out on the water. Our aims, however, are to ensure we give everyone a wonderful time and help to build their confidence in a fun, safe and stimulating way.
Within that number we took 343 young people under the age of 25 years, just like Jake here.
We also took 133 people over the age of 65, many of whom were living with dementia and came out as part of our 'Solent Breezes Project', with thanks to the funding we received from The Pargiter Trust.
During the year we have worked with some amazing organisations too, like Treloar’s, Rose Road, The Children’s Trust, Orpheus, Muscle Warriors, Chestnut Tree House, Care Management Group, Naomi House & Jacksplace as well as some local special schools.
We have also attended events during Cowes Week, Yarmouth Carnival and the Southampton Boat Show as well as visiting Poole and Lymington to run trips for local schools and groups.
Another Wetwheels was launched..
During May we saw the very exciting launch of Wetwheels Hamble, our third Wetwheels boat! The event was attended by some of our key stakeholders and Wetwheels Jersey came over too. It was amazing to see all 3 boats together for the first time.
Dame Mary Fagen cut the ribbon and named her with a very large bottle of champagne.
Some students from Rose Road were amongst the VIP guests for the day.
Have a look at this wonderful video, which captures all 3 boats together.
Following our abseil on Bank Holiday Monday in May a big round of applause went out to our 41 amazing abseilers who raised a staggering £15,719.86 for the Wetwheels Foundation!! Many of them had never done anything like this before and braved their fears for us, which was fantastic.
A special mention goes out to Laura who braved the abseil despite being a paraplegic and wheelchair user!
Although not specifically a Wetwheels Solent event we will still benefit from this money and it will help us get more people out on the water.
In September we had our 4th fundraising Golf Day and this year it was purely in aid of Wetwheels Solent. We had 12 teams enter the competition, which was held at Hamptworth Golf and Country Club. The day was followed by an evening meal, prize giving, raffle and auction and we raised just short of £3,300!
We would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity throughout the day.
Look out for the date of our 2017 fundraising Golf Day coming soon....
Lastly we celebrated our 5th Birthday!
Wetwheels Solent was named at the Southampton Boat Show on 16th September 2011…so this year was our 5th Birthday ….. where has that time gone?
Thank you to all our amazing team and all our wonderful volunteer crew, who give up their time to help us.
All that is left to say now is we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New year and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2017!
Merry Christmas everyone...
